Still Without PC

*sighs*

Well, credit to PC World they have this time outdone themselves..........not only did they originally fail to even bother to look at the disk drawer which was reported as not working, they then called me Saturday to ask what was wrong with my laptop!!

*sighs more*

So I told them, they said it was working.

*further sighs*

I asked if I could come collect it. They said they would run some more tests and call me. So I come off the phone and notice a voicemail left about 15 minutes earlier. Voicemail - from same bloke at PC World - advising they have found what's wrong with the laptop and are sending off for the part.

*sobs uncontrollably with frustration*

Another call seems to clear things up and they do indeed need to fix it (tell me something I don't know!!) and will call me when the part has been replced.

Hey, it's only about the 6th time the blinkin' thing has been back over the last couple of years!

Anyway, if anyone is expecting an email from me, I can't :o( All my email addresses are off in the workshop with my laptop, so if you need to contact me the best email address is the one at the top right on this blog.

*assumes some kind of meditation position and breathes deeply*

William Charles Murrell b1872

Gosh, well where do I start?

I have had the good fortune to be put in contact with two lovely, helpful people who are connected to the Murrell One Name Study. With over 60 years of research between them into the Murrell name and its variants I spoke with a lady in Canada who helped go through my Murrell information and suggested I write to the person who holds all the information on the one name study in the UK. She gave me some information on the tree which might contain my Murrell's, and was proved correct when I received a reply to my letter.

The information which they have come up with has proved to be a bit of a double edged sword. It blows a lot of family stories out of the water, going back over five generations. It would appear the my great great grandfather was probably - well almost definitely not from France as we all thought. Nor were his parents, grandparents, or great grandparents. In fact the tree, as far back as it goes, originates in Ipswich, moves to Stoke Newington, Hackney and Bethnal Green. Maybe there is a French connection somewhere, but it's not, it would appear, where we thought it was. The sad thing is that my great grandmother and her family would have moved within a few miles of where her father lived, just a few years after he died. Family stories had him running off to Spain when my great great grandmother and him parted, and I guess my great grandmother would have never even thought to look for him. On the upside I have also been put in contact with someone who is a descendant from the same Murrell tree :o) - how exciting is that?!?! I am looking forward to hearing all about the Murrells.

I'm also hoping to investigate Mr William Charles Murrell and find out why he moved from London to Sunderland in the late 1800's. Over 60 years of experience with the contacts I have met pointing me in the direction of the Ipswich tree cannot be ignored, but I feel I need to find out more, the how's and why's - to tread William's footsteps from London, to Sunderland and back again - all be it that I'll probably be using the internet to tread most of them ;o)

Coool

 It works!!!!

Testing out to see how posting via email works!!

And also to have a moan that a) the book I ordered as per the last post has had its release date delayed *sigh* It’s now not going to be published until about the 20th November. Lets hope that it doesn’t get delayed again!!!

Moan b) is that my laptop is still not fixed, I’m going to try really hard not to start too much on this one as I could go on for about 20 pages worth!! Needless to say I am not happy, and that I’d advise anyone not to bother with an extended warranty as to be quite honest they are kak at actually really sorting out any problems!!

Quick hellllloooooo

Not much doing on the family history front as the lappy has gone back to be fixed!!

In the meantime I have ordered a book on the 20th Battalion Durham Light infantry which my great grandfather served in. If I am lucky he may get a mention, but if not it will be an interesting, if not emotional read, hearing about what it was actually like during WWI where he was serving.

This is the book, hopefully it wont take long to arrive! Wearside Pals: The 20th (Service) Battalion, The Durham Light Infantry by John Sheen

How did you find me?

I have had 1,295 visitors since June this year.

Here's a list of the searches people have used to find this blog.

I would love to hear from you if you find me here and think you may be related, or even if you're not and would like me to post up something to help you find your family!

One of the things I love about researching my family is getting in contact with people who extend through the branches of my tree, no matter how far. It's always really interesting to hear about my ancestors and what others have found out about them, and then sharing what I have.

It's how you put the picture together and learn more.
