Summer Holidays

Morning all *waves*

I've not done much genealogy over the last few days, it's the start of the school holidays and I have some time off work and am going to try to get some decorating done. It's good to give the braincells a rest from searching through censuses too. I tend to go at it for days looking and searching and then I get genealogists block LOL. A few days doing something else and I usually find what I'm looking for first time when I come back to it!

Harry Potter

Morning !!

Not much doing on the genealogy front over the last couple of days, I have been too busy reading the new Harry Potter with no TV, pooter or papers in case they spoilt the ending LOL

Phil queued at the local Tesco at midnight and picked us up two copies, so we didn't have to share LOL and I stayed up till nearly 3am reading. The up first thing Saturday morning to finish it off. Managed to finish by 7pm. Would have been earlier if I didn't have stuff to do LOL

I'm not spoilering the end or any of it here, but it was good !!!!

I had just received the birth certificate for William Stemp born 1858 in Cranley (Cranleigh) Surrey which gave me the name of his parents as James Stemp and Susan Cooper when I decided to do a litte google looking for Knowle Lodge where William was born. One of the first hits was this website --> click here

I emailed the owners of the site who were really helpful in confirming that we did indeed have the same Stemp's in our trees, and offering their information for my tree. I therefore now have right back to about 1600, and the Stemp line goes even further back on the Dackombe webiste. All the information on their surnames can be forund here -->

Invasion of the KILLER Bees !!!!

OK, maybe that's a little dramatic !!!

Last night I arrived home to find a swarm of bees had taken up residence on our apple tree !!!!

Luckily we found a man in the Yellow Pages who lived just around the corner and came and rehomed them in a little box and took them away !




Big thanks to Grandma and Grandad for putting me and the boy up overnight while Phil bravely entered the loft (where they had appeared to have been before deciding they didn't like the decor and moving to the tree) and got rid of the last of them.

Looking for more on Mary Ann Teal Born Approx 1836 Hull Yorkshire

I have decided to have a little look for Mary Ann Teal on the backward branches of my tree. Having spent the last week or soo filling in some gaps on they Ayre branches I thought it might be nice to go back along the Teal ones. Which is where I hit a problem.

There are two possibles on the 1841 and 1851 censuses, so I'm going to have to do some detective work on both of them to see if I can figure out which is which, especially as her birth was probably before 1837.

I also stumbled accross a possible marriage for John W Ayre, born 1877. While searching the Yorkshire BMD which is a great website for all your Yorkshire BMD queries!! I found a marriage in 1912 between John W Ayre and Alice Pocklington which stood out like a sore thumb being as Johns mothers maiden name was Pocklington. Have put it on my list of things to investigate !! *dons Inspector Morse cap*

I also wonder if William and Sarah had another child Frances Pocklington Ayre born and died in 1872. Another one for investigation!

I have been having lots of fun with the Ayre family today :o)

Reasonably easy to find on the censuses and on BMD records (thanku free BMD) I always seem to find free BMD the easiest site to search.

It's nice sometimes to just sit and add people from a branch of my tree without any pressure to try to find a particular person (I think I am referring to the ongoing search for the McDonnell's here LOL)

I'm eyeing the clock and thinking it might be time to go to bed :o)

Due to bad weather, all outdoor activities have been passed over in favour of playing Family History - in between doing the washing :o)

I have spent most of the morning putting together more information on James Dixon b1796 and his family with the help of a report from a new contact on the Dixon Branch of the tree. I have put all the information in, and then used Ancestry to fill in some of the gaps on other of James's children.

Am now looking for the Taylors again, see below post on John Taylor - Born ????

I have John Taylor and Mary Donaldson on the IGI marrying in 1782, but can find nothing so far on their births, am looking through some of the sites I use to search parish records, and doing the usual google on names, dates and places to see if that thrown up any clues. I would love to know if Moses b1800 had any brothers and sisters, which I suspect he does, but without the family on a census it will be harder to trace.

I'm quite new to this so you may find me stumbling back and forth between branches on my tree until I eventually come up with the info I'm looking for :o)
